Cafe de Nature, Minami Aoyama カフェ ド ナチュール南青山

I thought I would have more trouble finding a table at Cafe de Nature as it has only recently opened its doors in swish Minami Aoyama. On a recent evening during Golden Week, my dining partner and I felt very lucky to get a booking, but when we sat down to dinner, we found we were only one of three parties in the relatively large upstairs dining room. Downstairs is a more casual cafe and pastry shop, but everywhere is fitted out in a very upmarket French cafe/ bistro style.

When I booked online there were two omakase courses to choose from so I splashed out on the 6,500 yen course. This was followed up by a charming phone call from the waiter who ended up looking after us, explaining in his best English that there were some changes to the advertised menu. All in all the menu in question, which is the more expensive one, represents pretty decent value for money, featuring a welcome sprtizer, amuse, starter, a fish, a meat and the dessert with coffee or tea. The wines by the glass were reasonably priced (our accommodating and attentive waiter brought 3 each of red and white to choose from) and of good quality.

Sparkling wine and ginger cordial

Egg

Vegetable terrine

Fish with a balsamico sauce

Pork with a green pepper and portobello mushroom (very decent)

Strawberry cheesecake and sorbet
